We started off this past week with a visit to the vet. Bristol and Buddy were due for their annual exams. Hubby took them in early Monday morning. All went well; Bristol is now weighing in at 60 lbs, and Buddy at 29 lbs! Last time Maggie was in she weighed in at 44 lbs.
Tuesday was my last test for this semester. I was very happy to have that done and over with. I also got my stock project back. I got 100%! Yahoo! So, overall I got an A in the class. Now I am 2 for 2!
Tuesday night we did something extra fun! One of the things we had purchased at the zoo ball auction was a Moonlight Safari. This is where you and a large group of your friends get an afterhours tour of the zoo, plus dinner. We had split the purchase of it with our friends the White’s. So, they brought 13 people and we brought 12. Their group ended up being mostly teenagers as they used this event to celebrate their oldest one turning 16 a few days before. She had about 5 friends come up and surprise her at the zoo.
We started with dinner (hot dogs and salad) and after dinner we made s’mores. It’s been so long since I have done that. Yum, I had 3. They were tasty!
After we were all in a sugar coma, we walked it off by taking our tour of the zoo. We got to hear the wolves howling at dusk. We got to feed the giraffes (you know I loved that), we got to pet a snake. Lots of cool stuff. Here’s hubby holding the snake:
We learned we are supposed to get another female elephant soon! And we apparently spooked the Emu’s. They started running back and forth like crazy when we walked by. It was hilarious! We learned the lions names are Elston and Angie. They were trapped in the wild when they were young. That doesn’t sound good, buy both of them had been in a situation where there was a lack of prey, and so had they not been trapped and sent to a zoo, they most likely would have died of starvation. We saw the new baby giraffe and I fed some giraffes crackers off the top of my head.
Oh, and we saved the beaver. Someone had given the beaver a bag to play with. But whoever did, didn’t realize the inside had a plastic coating. We noticed the beaver had a plastic bag and told the keeper. She had to go in and get it from him. Here he is with the plastic bag:
We left Courtney with Nana and Papa. This event ran until 10pm. She never would have made it to 10pm. We had a 4 year old that went with us and she barely made it. She stared melting down towards the end.
One day this week I made Crockpot lasagna. My friend had tried it recently, and said it worked great. So, I gave it a shot too. I came home at lunch one day to start it, as it really should only cook for about 4 hours. I came home at lunch, browned the ground beef, and then layered it in the Crockpot just as you would in a pan. I also mixed in a zucchini from my garden. Then when we came home that evening for dinner it was ready! I put the noodles in uncooked, and when I pulled out a piece of lasagna, the noodles were cooked! It was so easy it was great! And it was tasty!
Hubby left for Las Vegas on Friday. Our biggest conferences of the year started yesterday. I leave to join them on Thursday. I am looking forward to it, other than the fact that it’s hotter there than here.
Yesterday we celebrated my mom turning 60! After Courtney’s last swimming lesson, we went down to my parents’ house. We had to take an alternate route than our normal route thanks to the US Senior Open. They are playing at the Broadmoor and thanks to that, lots of roads are closed.
Courtney had an exhausting day. She wore herself out! She also ate corn on the cob for the first time!
After a fun filled day there, we came home and Courtney was past done. It was at her normal bed time, but she took a really short nap, if she even fell asleep at all. I had to dunk her in the tub, she was really dirty, but she had a major meltdown right before I put her in the tub. After a quick bath, and 1 book and 1 song, I put her down. She fell asleep in a matter of moments. Something she hasn’t done in a long time.
Later that night one of our cadets came over. We have acquired her through her ex-boyfriend. Toby is one of the cadets we have sponsored since Doolies day out. Kelli was his girlfriend and she started to come over with them. They broke up at the end of the school year last year, but Kelli loves coming here so much, she just comes over on her own now. She got here late last night, but she got up and started playing with Courtney this morning early! She loves playing with Courtney.
Since it’s been so hot, we decided to play outside but beat the heat while we were doing it. So, I got out the dog pool and the kid pool. I also brought the umbrella down to the grass to make us some shade while Courtney played in the sandbox and the pool. The dogs had fun getting cool too. I set up their dog pool in the dog pen in the shade.
