Croup

Croup...

Used to be a word that scared the dickens out of me. Probably because it used to be unknown. Croup is now a word I use frequently. Thanks to Kasey. As most of you remember, Courtney got croup over the summer and it landed her in the hospital. That was my first taste of croup. Although looking back I am pretty sure Kasey had it a few days before her, just not nearly as bad. So, my first taste of croup was really scary!

Kasey has croup again. I think this is about the fifth time for her? Apparently you can get a kid who is more prone to croup. Guess what I got? Lucky me! Thankfully she hasn't had to frequent the hospital for it. Thankfully we do our best to outsmart it with breathing treatments and if that doesn't work, we keep the oral steroid on hand. So, she started with a croupy cough on Sunday. Monday night we gave her the steroid. She is still kind of croupy, but much better. As much as we are prepared for this, it still stops life a bit. I can't leave her in any kind of day/child care, so any plans I had have to be altered.

This week I had plans for a massage. Thankfully Whitney watched her for me. Today I had a dental appointment. Kim was going to watch her, but then her kid got sick. And the steroids also lower Kasey's immune system, so she is more susceptible to get sick. SO, she had to spend some time at Daddy's office with him. I am not sure what I am going to do about MOPS tomorrow. She is better, but her immune system is lowered.

Poor kid, she hasn't been sleeping well at night, which also means not such great sleep for the rest of us. She coughs all night long. So, it's been a long week for all of us.

Hubby starts traveling next week. This is usually when travel season starts. Sounds like it is going to kick off with a bang too. Meaning, he is going to be doing a lot of traveling for a few months. Thankfully in the middle of all that we get a short family vacation! It's been a long time since we have done that! Kasey was 5 months old last time we did a family vacation!

I am glad travel season is starting, it means business is picking up. But travel season is always a bit difficult for me. It's a lot of Hubby coming and going. It's a lot of adjusting back and forth, and I pretty much am a single parent for months on end. Ok, that is all the complaining I am going to do about that (for now, haha).

Well, I picked a labor intensive dinner for tonight, for some reason. So I better go and work on that! Hope all of you are well!

Stop growing!

Things are pretty much the same here! At least we aren't freezing anymore. The temps have turned back to normal-ish. The other day it was 60 degrees! It was a little windy, which made it feel a little chilly, but still nice enough that we can get in some outside time!

Kasey is at such a great stage (age). She is getting more and more words! She now says Lemonade! And pretty well too! She always wants to talk to Papa on the phone, and Daddy on the computer. So, if she sees me sitting at the computer she comes up and says "Dada, Dada!" Sometimes she brings me the real phone, hands it to me and says "Papa!" (Papa is my dad.) But every time she is on one of her play phones she is always saying "Hi Papa!" She calls Papa a lot! And for some very odd reason she thinks that the door stop in her bathroom is a phone. After her baths she gets down on the floor, and starts yelling into the doorstop "Nana! Papa!"

The other day she shocked me when we were in the car. She started saying "Nana, Papa, House!" I of course got the point, however we were running errands, and not heading to Nana and Papa's house. But she is starting to learn how to get her point across! And when she wants to eat, she lets you know by yelling "EAT!" And she is now also starting to drink out of a cup while sitting at the table! She is growing up so fast. I want to freeze her just where she is.

We got Courtney a game called Zingo for Valentine's Day. We had purchased it for the Z's for Christmas, and they have been saying it's pretty good! So, we played a few games Valentine's Night. It is indeed pretty fun! And Courtney gets a kick out of it. She wants to play it all the time.

Speaking of Valentines Day. Courtney, Kasey and I made cupcakes that day. Then I surprised the girls by having cupcakes for dinner! Well, we ate our cupcakes first. Then after cupcakes I made breakfast for dinner. Not only did I do that, but I made pink eggs for the girls. Ok, the pink scrambled eggs didn't go over real well, but I thought they were cute!

Courtney had a Valentine's Party at preschool. There was all kinds of food, and of course the kids exchanged Valentine's. I had gotten Courtney a box of Princess one's. The kids were required to sign their name on all of them. She did a great job! Great practice for writing! And then they went right into learning about mail and the Post Office this week.

They now have a little plastic shopping cart in her room at school. Kasey discovered it and every time we walk into the room, she goes and grabs it and starts pushing it all over. There we were in the middle of all the chaos with drop off the other morning and there is Kasey in the middle of everyone pushing the shopping cart. It was so cute, I was wishing I had my camera. But I don't even think a picture would capture just how cute the whole scene was.

Well, other than that, things have been pretty much the same around here. Jared (from the P family) should arrive home from Iraq on March 1st. We are all planning to be there to meet him at the airport. We were all working on posters to welcome him home last night when the rest of the P family was here for dinner.

We are heading to Florida for Spring Break. I told Grammy and Granddad when they retired there that my plan was to head down every spring break! I asked them tonight if they think we will be able to swim in the pools while we are there (if the weather will be nice enough). They informed me that it was 80 degrees today, so yea, the pools will be open! YEA!!!

We are also going to surprise Courtney with a trip down to Disney World one day. Not only that, but we got reservations for lunch with the Princesses! I think she will probably flip. We are not going to share this information with her, because it's already hard enough with her knowing we are going to Florida to see Grammy and Granddad. She asks me about once a day when we are going. So, I am not going to leak a visit to the Princesses to her, because it would make the next month a very long one!

Well, I need to go and prepare an egg dish for tomorrow's MOPS! Hugs to all of you!

Still more cold!

I have a few minutes of quiet to blog before I am out the door and running again. The cold has remained here in CO. Currently, as I type this, it's 18 out. Whoo hoo! It's pretty sad when you get excited to see double digits. You know it's been cold then!

I made it through Mom's Weekend Away. My neighbor Molly was also on the planning committee with me, so we were able to carpool up to The Hideaway in Monument. Which was really good, because we took her 4-Runner (it has 4 wheel drive). It has been snowing off and on for days here, so we figured having 4 wheel drive in the forest would be a really good idea. And we were so glad we brought it, because by the time we left on Sunday, we had 8-12 inches of snow on the car!

So the weekend was good. The speaker was pretty good. I wouldn't say fantastic, for me, but not bad. I think everyone had a great time, which is what the goal was. Our theme for the weekend was Princess Diaries, or being a princess. So, the planning committee made a silly video with all of us dressed up as different princesses and what the princess's life is like now. I was Belle and I had 4 kids, pregnant with another, I was no longer a beauty, and no one would babysit my "beastlets". Just to give you an idea. Our very silly video got a LOT of laughs, which was the intent!

Saturday and Sunday and it snowed, and snowed! It snowed heavy too! It was so pretty! We got 4 hours of free time Saturday afternoon, which I think is the whole reason some people come! I sat in the hot tub right outside our bedroom door with some friends during that time. And it was snowing like MAD! We were only able to stay in the hot tub for about an hour because the water temp just kept dropping and wouldn't get warmer. We got about 2 inches of snow just while we were in the tub! It was so beautiful to sit in the tub while it snowed. After the hot tub, I took a hot shower, and then a nap! It was great!

By the time we left on Sunday (about 1pm) there was tons of snow, and we had to use the 4 wheel drive to get out. The staff was so kind and cleared off all our cars, as well as shoveled paths around all our cars! How kind is that! It was a good weekend for me, but at the same time, I was ready to come home.

I was back to reality rather fast once I got home. I had to run to the grocery store to get snacks for the impromptu Super Bowl party we were having. We had 3 cadets, and Esten, Julie and little Esten over. It was fun to play with the baby!

Then back to the really normal grind come Monday morning! But then Tuesday was another snow day. The girls and I headed over to our neighbors house to play. We stayed and played all morning, then I brought the girls plus their 4 year old home for Kasey's nap time. Ava and Courtney played all afternoon too! It was a great way to spend a snow day!

Wednesday was back to school. Plus Courtney had PT. Then the P's came over for dinner. Mr. P should be home from Iraq in about 2 weeks! Then he can join us for dinner too! So, Courtney had a friend to play with last night too. Just picture what our playroom looks like! It currently isn't pretty....

Kasey has started using more and more 2 word phrases. She is still kind of tough to understand, but at least she is starting to put words together. The other day Hubby walked in and she said "Hi Daddy!" I can't remember any other off the top of my head right now, but she has 2 or 3. Oh yea, another new one is "NO NAP!" She says that loud and a lot at nap time! Although she always ends up sleeping... silly kid...

Courtney was at preschool this morning and I took Kasey to Children's Playroom so that I could get some non-kid cleaning time in at home. I got 2 and a half hours, and I feel like I barely scratched the surface! I think I am going to need to do this about once a week for a while to try to catch the house up! I am having a 31 party here this weekend, so I was focusing on the main floor, but 2 & 1/2 hours just wasn't enough!!!

Well, the girls are home now, and it's time for me to get the little one down for rest time. Courtney doesn't nap anymore. She has to have "rest time" which means some downtime, usually watching a movie. If she doesn't get this down time, it's just not pretty. But she is supposed to go on a date with Hubby tonight to go see Pippi Longstocking, so she is going to have to actually rest in her bed today. We will see how this goes!

COLD!!!

Man, it's been COLD! School was cancelled for just about every district in town for the last two days. Monday afternoon a cold front moved in, and dropped the temperatures a TON! So, the girls and I stayed home all day Tuesday, I watched the outdoor temp all day and the highest it got was -7. BRR!! Wednesday was cold, but not as cold, but it was still around 0 degrees all day. We got very little snow with this system, school was really closed for the temperatures only!

Pipes were bursting all over town due to the cold. My friends the P's had 4 leaks! Thankfully the plumber that we used over the summer put them on high priority and was out there fixing the pipes early yesterday morning. (Thank you Z's for the recommendation a long time ago!)

School was finally back in session today! (YEA!!!!!!) I had a ton of errands to run, so once I dropped Courtney off at school I took Kasey to Children's Playroom and dropped her off. It's still cold, so I didn't want to be dragging Kasey around on my errands with me.

From there I went to the grocery store. I walked in and was thinking 'man, it's COLD in here!' Then I found out while I was checking out that they too had pipe problems, and they were working to fix their broken gas pipe. So, indeed the store did not have heat! No wonder I was so cold! Beauty Brands had people in working on their pipes too. Last night the news said that every plumber in town was booked up for days! I am glad we knew one who doesn't advertise!

Then I finished running my errands and went home. I think the temp was up to 27! A heat wave from 2 days ago! Funny thing is that last Friday it was in the 60's, so we went and had a picnic at the park! And here we are, not even a week later, freezing our tushies off!

We really made an effort to stay home and inside the last few days. I did have to take the girls out yesterday afternoon, Courtney had PT and OT. So, we had to go out and brave it a bit. We also went out for dinner for Hubby's b-day. It was 2 degrees on the way to dinner and -4 on the way home.

And of course all these above temps mentioned are the air temps, they don't include the wind chill! Tuesday the windchill was down in the -40 to -60 degree range. Way to cold!

This upcoming weekend is Mom's Weekend Away! It's finally here! I can't wait! It's going to be a good time. I have a few more things to do on the computer tonight and I should be ready.

Tonight the P's are coming over for dinner and Hubby is going to make his famous Smoke Alarm Steaks! I can't wait! It's been quite some time since we've had them! Well, I have a ton of things to do, so I better run! Hope everyone is well!
