Books

Well, Maggie's leg seems to be healing nicely. She has stopped limping, so no x-rays needed! I have said it before, and I will most likely say it again: crazy dog...

In my Sunday school class we are starting a book study. We are going to be reading 'The Hole in our Gospel' by Richard Stearns. It sounds really good, I just ordered my copy from Amazon and I can't wait to get it and start reading it!

For my other bible study (for MOPS) we are reading 'We would see Jesus' by Roy and Revel Hession. I have read through chapter 4 and so far I have really only enjoyed chapter 3. So, it's not my favorite. Now I just need to find more time to be able to read all these books!

Kasey just finished up another month of swim lessons. She's so shy around people she doesn't know that she doesn't get into the swim lesson much. She is going to take next month off and I am going to get Courtney in some. I just have to figure out times. I think they will start alternating months taking swimming lessons.

This past weekend we learned about hedgehogs at the zoo. I love hedgehogs! They are sooo cute! I have wanted one for a pet for a few years now. So, someday there will most likely be one in our future. I need to write down my bucket list of animals: tortoise, hedgehog, great dane, greyhound, and more! I have my whole life ahead of me to own all the animals, don't worry. They are not all going to invade my house at once. And of course we will try to have all of them be rescues!

I am trying hard to get my 31 business up and running. I have maintained active levels, but I really would like it to start bringing in a regular check for me. So, starting now, I am really going to start pushing it. They stuff is so cute and I really like it! So, if you want to have a party, let me know! Please!

Well, it's time to go get stuff done around the house! Hugs to you!

Penguins

I really wish I could blog from my iPad, I would update it more. But I am unable to do that for some reason. I can get to the screen to do the update, but it won't let me type anything in. So, I guess for now, I will keep updating from my laptop, which I am not on as much as I used to be.

Anyway, I received good news this past week. I was tested for the BRCA gene, which is the gene that if you have the mutation, means you are at a higher chance for ovarian and/or breast cancer. My gene is not mutated! So, I am at the normal risk levels with the rest of the population! Good news!

Last Saturday we started zoo preschool up again. We learned all about penguins. Because we have a smaller group of kids this time, we were able to get an upclose and personal experience with the penguins! The kids collected pine cones for them, and then they were able to get into the penguin enclosure and put the pine cones out for them. Apparently they are hoarders, so they like to put stuff in their "nests". So, all the kids (about 4 of them) put pine cones all over the enclosure. After we all left, they were all running around like mad collecting them and running them into their nests. Their nests are actually kennels through holes in the wall, but that is what they consider their "nests". It was so neat!!!
Hubby and Courtney had Monday off, so we kind of had a family day. We were going to try to get out and do something after Kasey had her swimming lesson, but we ended up spending a quiet day at home. For fun Courtney made Princess Cupcakes. Maddie and Toby gave her pink cupcake mix (Strawberry), white frosting, and Princess decorations to make Princess cupcakes with. She had a ball! They are already almost gone. We also made the white icing pink for her. She just might be a baker one day. And now she has us all hooked on cupcakes. I try to always have some mixes in the closet to make cupcakes when she asks. I usually also try to have muffin mixes also. It's a good project for her to do and she's getting better at it all the time!

I can't remember if I have mentioned before or not, but I am on the committee for Mom's Weekend Away. It's coming up in 2 weeks! I can't wait! But meanwhile, it's been taking up lots of time. I have had a few projects to do at home, plus several meetings to attend. It will be nice to get that over with. I mean, I am enjoying it and I love Mom's Weekend Away, but it is a big time commitment at the moment!

Maggie somehow got out of the dog run the other day. Not sure if she jumped off the deck or over the fence at the bottom. But, she came in limping after she did this. Hubby took her to the vet yesterday, and they suspect it's a sprain. She's on an anti-inflammatory and a pain med. We are watching her, and if she is still limping on Saturday she will have to go back to the vet for x-rays. Crazy dog....

I have been working out as much as my schedule allows. I did skip today. My knee feels a little sore and I also felt like I had a lot I needed to get done, and it's a lot easier with just 1 kid versus 2.

Hmm, I can't really think of much else that is new and exciting that is happening here. Kasey and I are still at the tail end of our colds. But (knock on wood) it hasn't moved into Croup for her.

Well, I need to go and get Courtney from preschool soon, so I better go take advantage of these last few minutes!

Another week gone by!

Courtney and I were talking in her bed tonight. She is attached to a stuffed puppy she has named "Puppy". Coincidentally, this is the same stuffed puppy that my mom brought to me when I was in the hospital on bed rest with Courtney. I missed my real dogs terribly, and my mom thought the stuffed Puppy would do me some good. He slept with me every night and was with me when Courtney was born. We brought him home and put him up on the shelf in Courtney's room that has other meaningful items on it. She decided over a year ago, she wanted that puppy down. Out of the 20+ stuffed animals up there, that was the one she wanted. And now, it's "her puppy". Her one and only prized possession that has to be with her in bed every night. He also rides in the car with her a lot. I just think it's so cool that she chose the one animal that was directly significant to her. Tonight she was asking me 10,000 questions about where puppy came from, and why was I in the hospital, and how did she get in my belly, etc. It's easy to answer questions like that for a 4 year old. I dread it when she gets older and demands more of an answer than: God put you there.

She has been cracking me up lately. Yesterday she was telling Kasey to follow her. She was drawing on her little Magna-doodle and walking around. She kept telling Kasey "come on, we are going to walk to China". This morning she woke me up with a map that she had drawn to show us how to get to Florida. Do we have a world traveler on our hands?

Yesterday, she had an appointment with the Pediatric Geneticist people. They come down from Denver once and month, and it took us over a year to finally get in to see them. They are going to screen Courtney's genes for anything we may have missed. This is just kind of another step for ruling anything out. With her diagnosis, it's been a lot of ruling other things out to confirm what she does have. Kind of backwards from the usual way of doing things.

Anyway, we had to go over her whole history with them. Jeez, it's a lot. She has had just about every test under the sun. I don't even remember how many times Apria was dropping off equipment at our house for one test or another. (Thank goodness for Apria.) They really don't expect to find anything with her genes, but it's always good to check and to rule out missing anything.

They want to see her back in a year, and my guess is that they are going to follow her for a couple of years (I am thinking 5+) to watch her genes and see if anything shows up, either with new technology, or something that was missed before. I think it will kind of be interesting to see what happens there.

So, in a few weeks she is going to have to have some more blood draws and urine tests. Yea. That's always fun with a 4 year old. Hopefully Hubby will be around so that he can hold her for the blood draws. The bigger she gets, the harder she is to hold still!

Kasey and I are both fighting colds. I took her to the doctor's today because she started with a fever last night, even though she has had the cold a few days now. I fully expected them to find an ear infection. NOPE! No strep either. We have had Kasey on regular breathing treatments since her last bout of croup, so I hope this fever isn't an indication of the beginnings of croup again.

We had snow Sunday night into Monday. Monday morning Courtney's school district had a 2 hour delayed start, so that meant no preschool for her. Tuesday they also delayed for 2 hours because it was so cold. Which I thought was a very nice thing to do! So, no preschool again, which wasn't a big deal because Courtney had the appointment at the genetics lab anyway, so she would have missed class. So, finally today, she was back to school. I really wanted to go to Pilates at the Y, but since Kasey and I are both sick, we stayed home, and I took her to the doctor. I also got a lot of cleaning done. It was nice, but I can't wait to get back to working out.

Well, I am exhausted. This cold is kicking my butt. Hope all of you are well!

New Year's

I expected to be less busy after Christmas. Somehow I was wrong. The last few week before Christmas I wasn't able to get to the gym because Kasey was sick so much, or I had too much to do. I am finally back at the gym, so that takes up my mornings while Courtney is at Preschool.

I took a Pilates class this week for the first time and really enjoyed it! Its kind of similar to yoga, but I feel like it worked my body a lot more than yoga does. I can't wait to do it again next week.

Monday was my first day back at the gym in a while. And of course, because it's the first week of January, it was PACKED. Plus, the school districts around here didn't go back to school until Wednesday or Thursday. So, Kasey and Courtney came with me. I had to go because Kasey had a swim lesson. When I left Courtney at her Child Watch (for kids 3 and up), there were about 30 kids.

Kasey and I did our swim lesson and by the time we were getting out of the pool, the pool was getting quite packed. They have their smaller, non-deep pool that they do most of the lessons in. They also have a larger pool with lap lanes, a water slide and also it's where they hold the adult aerobic classes. Once we were done, I put Kasey in child watch (which too was packed) and planned on going and swimming a few laps. However, I went to the big pool and there were NO lap lanes open. And they even had an extra one set up! So, I gave up. I could lane share, but I am not a good swimmer, so I really don't want to try to share a lane. So, instead I got dressed and went and had a cup of coffee in the lobby while I looked over the new schedules and brochures for the new year. Then I went to get the girls.

When I went in to pick up Courtney, there were 80 kids in child watch! 80! I know there were 80 because I heard one staff member tell another. So, I decided to skip the gym the next day. 80 kids is just too much chaos. They all run around in a gym, and there aren't that many activities for them to do. So, I waited until Courtney was back in school on Wednesday until I went back. It was much calmer then, kid wise. Still pretty busy people wise. It's bad, but all of us regular gym go-ers can't wait until people start giving up on their resolutions.

Let's see, what else? Well, we went to Hubby's cousin's wedding in Denver. We were able to get our babysitters (they are sisters) for the night, so we were able to spend the night up in Denver. It was nice.

Our New Year's Shin Dig was a big smaller people wise this year. Mostly because we had a major snow storm the day before and some people did not want to travel on the roads. Which is fine. It was actually nice having a smaller party. I think we have decided to keep it smaller next year and not invite EVERYONE like we usually do. Kasey made it to about 11:15pm. She could have probably gone to bed earlier, but I was too busy and didn't get a chance until then. Courtney made it until Midnight of course. You would think they would sleep in the next day. NOPE!

In fact when we really mess with Courtney's sleep, we pay for it the next day. She is usually grouch to the max. Well the next day, both kids were. Thankfully we had a birthday party to go to in the afternoon (New Year's Day), and that helped break up the monotony of being at home and they behaved pretty well while we were there.

Kasey was pretty much back to normal the next day. It took Courtney about 3 days to get back to normal. I was worried I was going to sell her on Craigslist she was so hard to live with for a while there. But she has finally recovered, and I didn't have to sell her!

Our snow stuck around for a while. We had some pretty cold temperatures for a while. We finally hit the 50's yesterday, so that is when I got all the outside decorations down and put away. We still have a small bit of snow on the ground here and there. And supposedly we have another storm coming Sunday night. YAY!

My commitments have started up again, with the New Year too. I have already had 2 meetings for Mom's Weekend Away. I am on the committee to get that all put together. Thankfully that event is happening on February 5-6, so not much more longer doing that. My ministry team meeting for MOPS have also started back up again. MOPS starts up again on January 14th, so we have to get ready for next semester.

Big news here is that Kasey peed in her potty! She has been practicing sitting on her potty for months, but the other night she actually PEED in it! You know you are a mom when you get excited when your kids pee in a potty, even worse, when you blog about it!

Our cadets are back from their break too. We have seen a couple of them already! Maddie and Toby called us on my birthday to wish me a happy birthday and to let me know they got engaged! YAY! We were so excited to hear that!

Well, that's about all that's been new around here. Christmas is all down and put away. New toys are all put away in their new places. Time to take 2011 by the horns!

Hope all of you are well!
