Phew, what a week

So, as you know my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last Tuesday. We met with her surgeon that afternoon who laid out the plan of attack for a worst case scenario. The first step was surgery which was scheduled for Friday. My mom decided to have a double (bi-lateral) mastectomy. She also had to have her sentinel node for her right arm removed and checked for cancer which they did during the surgery.

Friday morning finally came, and she went into surgery right at 10:15am, on time! 2 hours later the surgeon came out and let us know that the sentinel nodes were clear of cancer!!!! We could not have asked for better news!!! WHOO HOOO!!!! So, it looks like the cancer was caught early and contained to the breast!

Friday night she was super sore and on a morphine drip. Zak stayed overnight with her in the hospital that night. There was talk about sending her home the next day. Thankfully the doctor let her stay in another day, so she had another 24 hours in the hospital. I stayed with her on night 2.

We brought her home yesterday afternoon. I think she was really glad to be home. She says she is doing ok. She sound like she is doing pretty well. Susan is going to come back down from Greeley to stay with her and my dad a few more days. They had gone home on Sunday morning.

We meet with her Oncologist tomorrow afternoon to find out the next step in the plan of attack. She will be having chemotherapy for sure, we will find out tomorrow when it starts. We still aren't sure about the radiation or hormone therapy yet. Most likely she won't have to have radiation.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Kasey finally rolled over from her stomach to her back on the same day my mom was diagnosed with cancer. We had been anxiously awaiting this day. The kid HATES being stuck on her tummy. So, she finally figured out how to fix it! Now she rolls all over the place!

I formed a team for the upcoming (very soon) Susan G Komen walk. Our team is "The Fighting Ta-Tas". Please come walk with us on Sunday Sept 13th! If you aren't able to walk, please make a donation to our team! We only have 2 weeks to try to hit our goal of $1000.

You can donate or join our team here: http://race.komencs.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1080&px=1306644

Well, sorry this is short folks, but I have a million things to do. I will keep you all updated!!

Today

Today my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has invasive lobular carcinoma. She goes in for surgery Friday at which point we will find out what stage she is... at this moment I feel like my world just came crashing down... but I am doing my best to think positively!

Carrots and Dirt

Well, Hubby left again today on another trip. He is just gone for the week this time.

Kasey is officially off her wedge pillow. We took it out of her crib and put the bumper up. She had her first night last night without it. She only woke up once, which is standard, so pretty good! Nap time on the other hand is still a little bit of a battle.

Friday night Courtney and I went over and checked on our neighbor's garden. She has about 10 million carrots! So, we pulled a few of them out of the ground to snack on. Here are the 3 we pulled up:

And Courtney munching on them. They sure are good fresh out of the ground and washed!

Saturday I got a bunch of errands taken care of before Hubby left. Courtney and I went to the local garden shop and picked up a Dwarf Alberta Tree to plant in my new planter. We also emptied my pots from this summer. All my flowers were pretty much dead. Courtney got really into the work. Here she is in the tub BEFORE I washed her:

And After:

And her is our new little tree:

I have switched Kasey to oatmeal. She seems to like it a LITTLE better. She still doesn't eat a lot of it. We are lucky to get 5 spoonfuls in her mouth before she starts crying. But at least that is better than the rice cereal. With that she started crying with the first spoonful!

Looks like it's going to be a pretty quiet week here. I am ok with that. I need time to get ready for our trip to Florida! Courtney is really looking forward to it. She keeps telling me all the stuff she wants to bring. The other day it was her favorite cup and a bean she was eating... She also told me that we are going to celebrate Grammy's 3rd birthday. Apparently Grammy is turning 3 just like she is soon!

Well, I guess I will go and take advantage of some quiet moments to get some cleaning done!

Here is Hubby and his girls:

So big

Kasey is growing up so fast. Today I pulled out the "Command Center" and put Kasey in it for the first time. She has LOVED it! At least for brief periods of time. And I am so thankful for that. She has been in a big HOLD ME, HOLD ME, HOLD ME mood the last few days. Life has been a little difficult because she doesn't want to do anything but be held, including while she sleeps. This has made for some long nights recently.

She still also hates her rice cereal. Because of this I think I am going to try her on baby oatmeal. I went back and was reading my blog from when Courtney was this age. We had to do the same thing with her. She too hated the rice cereal and preferred the oatmeal.

Its amazing after going back and reading my blog from Courtney's first year, that we survived that first year! My gosh she was some work!

Anyway, yesterday Hubby and I got a special treat. We got to feed the River Otters at the zoo. The River Otters are one of Hubby's favorite animals. So, I arranged with my friend a feeding of them! Hubby got to feed them fish chunks. They came right up to the fence! They are sooo cute! I wish we could pet them, but you aren't allowed to. They have faces that make you want to snuggle them!

We were able to sneak off and do this while Courtney was at daycare. Kasey came with us. It was a beautiful day and we really had fun!

The Kia is gone now! So, we are down to just the 2 new cars, the Ford Flex and Ford Focus and the 2 motorcycles! We have a driveway back! It's great!

We survived Courtney's first party at Chuck E. Cheese. The place sure has changed since I was a kid! They used to have an band of characters that were robotic like. Now they just have the Chuck E. Cheese mouse left and the band has been replaced with screens where they show videos. It took Courtney a while to find something she was interested in, but she finally found a SpongeBob game she liked. Basically all she had to do was drop her token in. If it landed on certain colored squares she would get different amounts of tickets. She did pretty well and landed on the 50 ticket square twice. Overall at the end she had 200 tickets exactly. So she was able to pick out a few prizes. One thing she got was a pink ring that opens up. She just loves that thing and plays with it all the time. Chuck E Cheese came out and visited all the kids. He wanted to visit with Kasey too, she just wanted to sleep!

It has been really great having Susan and Zak back in state. We have seen them a bunch of time already. Of course at the moment, I don't know when we will see them again, but the really great thing is that I can just get in my car and drive to their house!!! It is wonderful!

Other than that, things have been pretty much the same here. Courtney is still doing her therapy. It's work too! Every week we get a take home sheet of things to work on. They aren't hard, but sometimes its hard to incorporate them daily into her life. And at the same time I have to make them fun activities so that she will do them. I have a feeling we are looking at a LONG time in therapy. That's ok by me as long as it helps her!

Well, guess I should go and get some stuff done!

Busy Week

Well, it's been a busy week here! We sold our Jeep Cherokee on Tuesday! Whoo hoo! One less vehicle to insure and keep here at the house!

Tuesday night we decided to take advantage of the "Cash for Clunkers" program and we traded the Jeep Wrangler in and got a 2009 Ford Focus on Wednesday. So, in a period of about 48 hours we went from a Jeep Family to a Ford Family. Something I never thought I would be!

Prior to taking the Jeep Wrangler to the dealership, Hubby stripped it down of all the custom parts he has added to it over the years. We will sell those off on Craigslist. It was hard for him to see it go, but he realizes it was the best decision. The Wrangler didn't go without a fight though. It scratched Hubby's legs up pretty good as he stripped it, and when we were almost to the dealership, it stalled. It put up a fight till the end, and now it will never be driven again...

Now we just have the Kia left to sell. We have had several people interested, so hopefully it will sell soon.

Susan and Zak came down on Wednesday to drop Phoebe off with my parents. They have a wedding in Oregon this weekend, so they were bringing Phoebe down to 'Camp Nana' before flying off the next morning. We had everyone over here for dinner. We smoked a turkey breast all day. That has to be one of my favorite things we do on the smoker. It always turns out soooo yummy! We all enjoyed a large dinner together. Since Susan and Zak were flying out of Denver the next morning, they decided it might be easier to stay at our house for the night, since my parents' house is another 30 minutes in the opposite direction from Denver. So, they spent the night here with us. Once Courtney was in bed and my parents left we played a few games of Sequence before heading to bed. They were up and out early the next morning to make their flight. We get to see them again on Sunday when they come back to pick up Phoebe. At that time we will be celebrating Zak's birthday. It's so great to have them close again!!!

Thursday the girls and I spent a lazy-ish morning at home. Usually Thursday is library day, but since Courtney (and myself) had been up later than normal the night before we skipped it and relaxed at home. That afternoon Hailey came over to play. Her mom, dad and sister went to Kinsey's first ever "back to school" night. She starts Kindergarten on MONDAY! I can't believe it! How did time fly so fast??? So, Hailey came over to stay with us. Hailey and Courtney are in the same class at My Gym, so the girls played, then we fed them dinner, and then we all headed to My Gym. Right as we pulled up in the parking lot so did Tony and Kelly. So, the timing worked out great!

Oh, and Kisney lost her first tooth that same day. I know I said it before, but I still can't believe it! I still clearly remember the day she was born and we went and saw her in the hospital! How did we get to this point so darn fast?!

Yesterday we did something pretty fun. The Fountain Creek Nature Center was holding a special summer program for 2-3 year olds called "The itsy-bitsy spider". I have never been down to the Fountain Creek Nature Center because I didn't know where it was or if Courtney would like it. But I saw this program advertised in a kids magazine I picked up at the library.

Courtney really enjoyed looking around the nature center, they really have it geared towards kids and it's pretty hands on. They took us into their education room and did a little puppet show about spiders. They had a few real spiders for the kids to look at including a black widow and a tarantula named Rosie that the kids got to meet in person! After that we went outside for a nature walk. All the kids enjoyed looking for spider webs and we found LOTS of them! It did start to rain on us, but it was a light rain so it wasn't too bad. I look forward to taking Courtney back there!

Today Courtney has her first birthday party to attend at Chuck E. Cheese. She has no idea this places exists at the moment, and that all changes today. We shall see what she thinks of it!

My allergies sure have been bad for about the past 2 weeks. I hope that whatever is causing them to act up so bad settles down soon!

I have been trying to give Kasey her cereal daily for the past few days. She seems to HATE it. She can be in the best of moods until you try to feed her cereal. Then she starts to cry. Not sure what all that is about! Not sure if she doesn't like the taste or the texture. We will keep trying, I may have to buy another brand to see if a different brand tastes better to her.

Well, I have already been up for over an hour with Kasey, so I guess I better go and get my day started!

Greeley

Well, we took Kasey to the doctor on Friday. She weighed in at 13 lbs, 2.5 oz! Her weight and length were in the 40th percentile. Now her HEAD on the other hand, was in the 75th percentile. The kid's got a big head!! Other than that, things went great. She does have some torticollis just like her sister did. So, she is going to have to do some PT, but no biggie!

She turned 4 months old on Saturday. Which was 8/8. Which was also exactly a year ago that I found out I was pregnant! In Las Vegas! My how time flies!

She is allowed to start "solid" food now. So this morning I gave her some cereal. Her facial expressions were quite entertaining! It is going to take her a while to get used to this!

We also took Courtney to the dentist on Friday. A pediatric dentist to be exact. She slipped and fell face first at my parents house a few weeks ago, and hit her two front teeth pretty hard. They did bleed around them, and now they are starting to change color. They may be dead or they may be bruised. We won't know for sure for about another 6 weeks. Which is when we have to go back to the dentist's office. She may end up losing those teeth. The good news is that they are baby teeth. But her adult teeth won't grow in until she is about 6-7. We will see what the next few weeks holds...

I went to Greeley this weekend to help my sister and Zak do some things in their new house. I left on Friday during nap time. It took me just over 2 hours to get there. What a great house they got! They replaced almost all the flooring on the main level and the stairs to the basement. The carpet in the basement is nice and seems new so no need to replace it. They will probably borrow my carpet cleaner to give it a once over cleaning though.

Friday night after I got there, we went to dinner and did a lot of chatting and catching up. We got nothing accomplished in the house that night. But we started the next morning and we got a lot accomplished over the weekend. We painted and weeded, and did lots of other little things. My mom painted the laundry room while Susan and I painted the master bathroom. My mom and I also both covered this large red square on the living room wall. We all painted the kitchen together. There is still a lot of work to be done to get the house how they want it, but they have a GREAT start!

My mom also took me to a great garden store near their house. They have some of the neatest stuff I have seen! I may end up making a trip there every time I go to visit Susan!

Saturday night we had 3 HUGE thunderstorms hit. My room was in the basement, so thankfully it didn't keep me up too much. Zak tried to take some pictures of the lighting. I hope he got some.

The previous owner of the home watered WAY to much, so everything in their yard is a little moist. Their window wells are so moist that in 2 of them, they have toads living in them! They are so cute. At night they would come up to the window and look in. Adorable little guys. The 3rd window well had standing water, and Susan and Zak had to buy a pump to pump it out.

So, it was difficult but I headed out after an early dinner Sunday evening. So did my mom. She ended up spending a total of 10 days up there helping them out. I really am looking forward to going up there for another visit soon!

Hubby spent the weekend home with the girls. He had lots of visitors. Friday night Rick came over, as did our cadet Toby and his girlfriend Maddie. Saturday night our other cadet Scott came over. Apparently he had a great weekend with the girls! Kasey even slept really well for him (of course).

Well, Kasey is sleeping, I need to go and try to get some stuff done before I go and get Courtney!

New Hairdo!

So, I survived the 2 weeks without Hubby. For some reason this trip was really rough on the girls. Courtney has just hit this stage (I hope it's a stage) of really misbehaving, not listening, and just being ornery. Kasey also hit a stage where the only way she would sleep was to be held. She was even having trouble making it through the night! Towards the end of Hubby's trip, she was at the point where I had to go into her room a few times a night just to rock her back to sleep!

Hubby came home Monday afternoon. Monday night Kasey was only up once in the middle of the night, which is pretty standard. Then last night she slept through the night. I guess she really missed her daddy!

Kasey has also been changing fast! She has discovered her feet and plays with them all the time. She also has discovered her hands and tries to cram them in her mouth all the time. Or if there is something in her hands, like a burp cloth or rattle, she tries to shove that in her mouth too. I guess we are hitting that stage of her exploring her world with her mouth! We go on Friday to the doctor for her 4 month old check up and shots. Not looking forward to the shots...
She also is rolling over all the time now. Of course tonight our friends were over and she wouldn't roll over at all. But all day today, any time I put her on her back, she would roll right over to her belly!

Not sure what is up with Courtney recently. Her speech therapist seems to think that Courtney feels that her world is currently out of control so she is acting out. Not sure what the deal is, but we are going to have to figure something out soon before I sell her to the highest bidder... (just kidding, I really wouldn't do that).

I got my hair cut short today. I have hit the point of that after pregnancy time that my hair is starting to fall out in clumps. Everyone warned me during my first pregnancy this would happen, but after my pregnancy with Courtney it didn't happen. But it is now! And my hairdresser who has 3 kids said that it started about 4 months after her births for her too. So, I decided that shorter clumps are better than longer clumps. I plan on growing it out again, but for now, it's a nice change.
I was supposed to go to the zoo tomorrow with our vet. Our vet has 2 kids, their oldest is a girl who is about 7 months older than Courtney and their boy is probably about 1 year old right now. Anyway, we have gone to several events with them but our kids have never met. So, we decided to do a trip to the zoo together. But she called me today and said that her pediatrician is pretty sure her son has the H1N1 virus! He is currently quarantined to their house for 7 days. That is awful! I sure hope he recovers quickly.

So, I guess we will go to story time at the library. I have taken Courtney to "Toddler Time" at the library for the past 2 weeks. She enjoys it. The do a great job at keeping it interesting for the kids to hold their attention. We have learned a new song, 'the milkshake song', that Courtney just loves.

Due to Courtney's new little attitude, I have been doing my best to keep her busy all the time. Last night we made cupcakes to share with our friends who came over for dinner tonight. The last 2 days we have also worked on making the invitations for her birthday party. She is going to be having her 3rd birthday party at the zoo this year, complete with merry-go-round rides, pony rides, pizza and cake. She will have a blast I am sure. But its very hard for her to understand that the actual party doesn't take place for about another month.
I finally get to go to my sister's house this weekend. They have been in the house for over a week now, but since Hubby was gone, I wasn't able to get up there to help out. So, I finally get to go and help out! I am really looking forward to seeing them and getting a chance to finally help! They still have painting to do and lots of yard work, so there should be plenty for me to help out with. Of course I only get to go for the weekend, but at least I get to go for a few days. It should take me about 2 hours from my house to theirs.

Well, I am exhausted and both kids are in bed, so I guess that is where I should be too! Hope everyone is well!
