I forgot...

I forgot this, but Hubby reminded me and I had to share. Now before I tell you this, I want you to get a picture of Hubby in your head. Got it?

So, Courtney says to Hubby the other day: Daddy, when are you having your baby???

Shocker

The pictures were taken by Courtney's school a few weeks back.

Well, Kasey was diagnosed yesterday with reflux. I know, big shocker. But so far it seems to be much milder than Courtney's was. The thing that irritates me is that she has been showing her own signs for over a week, and I missed it. I was looking for the same signs Courtney showed so I missed Kasey's cues. Her doctor started her on Zantac yesterday. We will see if it works. She got some really good sleep after I gave her the first dose. But she was still up every 2 hours over night, so we will see.

The funny thing is that I really don't feel worried about this diagnosis like I did when Courtney was diagnosed. Probably because I have been through it, and am educated about it now. I really don't even feel worried. A big change from Courtney. I sold Courtney's AR Pillows thinking we would not need them again. Thankfully our friend held on to hers so I can use that one at home for now. And if we want to buy one for daycare in August, I can do that. And I checked yesterday and the price of them has been reduced by $10 since I bought the ones for Courtney. I remember feeling so panicked when Courtney was diagnosed.

Speaking of Courtney, she continues to amaze me. Last night I was reading her Cinderella, for the billionth time. I was trying to make it interactive, so on every page I was asking her to identify things. There was a page that had Cinderella looking out the window towards the castle in the distance. I asked Courtney if she knew where the castle was. She pointed to the castle, and then said "it's in the distance". Wow, okay! Where did she learn that?

She has been very much into the Princesses recently. Cinderella is her favorite. My mom bought her the movie and the book and like I said, we have to read the book every night. Plus she sleeps with it. It is not that old and it's already quite worn. And she has Princess shoes that she loves to wear. She can identify Sleeping Beauty, Belle and Cinderella now in a heartbeat.

Currently her favorite movies are Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and Mary Poppins. We let her watch bits and pieces of them occasionally. It's funny because in Lady and the Tramp, one of the neighbor dogs is named Jock. She calls him "Jaw". She kept asking me to watch "Lady and the Tramp and Jaw". For a long time I thought she was saying "I want to watch Lady and the Tramp and Draw". I thought for some reason she wanted to draw while watching the movie. I finally realized she was talking about Jock! She thinks the name of the movie is "Lady and the Tramp and Jock".

Our friend Rick has been acting as a Handyman for us the last few weeks. He is currently unemployed, so we are employing him to get stuff done around our house. Yesterday he insulated our garage doors. Something I have wanted done for quite some time. Both girls bedrooms are above the garage and the temperature is so hard to control in them. I am hoping this helps, especially in the summer. Between that and the solar tinting we had put on the windows, things should start to be better this summer!

Well, Kasey is wanting to be held, I must go oblige!

Settling in

Well, Kasey is 2 weeks old now! The first week was pure baby bliss! Yesterday around 4:30am she had a pretty bad gas attack and was pretty miserable all day yesterday. I finally got her some anti-gas medication from Walgreens, and we started giving it to her last night. It seems to finally be working! She is actually asleep in the swing for the second time today! Yesterday she wouldn't let us put her down at all. Ahh, back to baby bliss! Let's hope it lasts.

We had a weight check on Monday morning, and she did really well! She weighed in at 7lbs 1.5oz! Very good to hear!

Meanwhile, Courtney has been complaining off and on of stomach pain for a while. We have been to the doctor several times for it in fact. Finally she did a blood draw. Blood draw came up negative for anything. SO, we are trying eliminating dairy for 2 weeks to see if we still get complaints of stomach pains.

Hubby is back to work this week. Sounds like things are busy there. If this baby continues to be this good all the time, I may go stir crazy before August! But in a few weeks things will get more interesting. We are taking Courtney down to just part time 3 days a week in daycare. That way she can spend time with me and the baby. I am looking forward to zoo outings and play dates.

Courtney feels like a giant to me now! She was always so little, but now there is someone much littler in the house! It's so odd feeling!

So, the name game. Where did Kasey Marie come from? Well, we went to the hospital thinking she would be named either Abigale, Katelyn, or Elizabeth, with the middle name of Marie. While I was in labor, we discussed the name Kasey. Hubby's cousin and sister had recommended Casey, but we didn't like it spelled with a C. So, we added Kasey to the list while I was in labor at the hospital.

Once she came out and we spent some time with her, we realized she didn't look like a Katelyn, Abigale or Elizabeth. She looked like a Kasey. Marie is my middle name as well as Hubby's sisters. And now Kasey has the same initials as me, just like I had the same initials as my mom with my maiden name. So, it worked out well on many levels. We ended up naming her about 10am the day after she was born!

Now with Courtney, she was either going to be Courtney Marie or Colette Marie. But after spending time with her we still couldn't decide. Until I said to Hubby 'what about Courtney Colette?'. And that just seemed to flow well, and fit her. Colette is the name of Hubby's aunt who he really admired and looked up to. She passed away from ALS in 2002, shortly before Hubby and I got married. I think we named Courtney about 5am on day 2. And we were able to use Marie with Kasey! Funny how life works out.

Well, I need to go and take advantage of the time while the kid is asleep! Hope everyone is well!

Baby Kasey 2

So, after the c-section we stayed in our room until midnight. At midnight they made me sit up so that I could sit in a wheelchair and move to the next floor up. So, we packed up all our stuff and headed up.

The night was a LONG one for me. Kasey did really well. She was sleeping at least 3-4 hours in a stretch. I on the other hand, still had not been able to get up and walk around, so I had these pump things on my legs to help with deterring blood clots. So, about every 45 seconds you got this "whoosh, whoosh" and then an inflating sound and my legs got squeezed. Plus I had some medicines on my IV still that they were pumping in me. That pumped kicked on about every 10 seconds. Plus I had to be on oxygen because my oxygen level was low and the thing that sat on my nose really itched. Between all those factors I really didn't sleep much, or any.

The next morning I finally got to lose most of the machines. It got much quieter in there and I was finally able to get some rest off and on. We had a parade of visitors all day, which also was nice to pass the day.

One of our visitors was Courtney. Nana brought her up to the hospital to see her sister for the first time. It was pretty much like 'mom and dad who? Let me at my sister!' She wanted to hold the baby, rock the baby, put the pacifier in the baby's mouth, cover the baby... It was quite cute. We had to constantly remind her to be gentle.

Due to the fact that I had the c-section, we stayed at the hospital until Saturday morning. And thankfully Saturday morning both my doctor and the pediatrician were through early, so we didn't have to wait too long to be discharged. I think we got home mid to late morning. That was when the switch flipped with Courtney. She is still all about the baby and can't stand to hear her cry, she gets very upset, but her listening skills when right out the window. The kid spent most of the day in time out! But pretty much everything that happened is to be expected. And the funny thing is that as much as she loves her sister and wants to make her happy when she cries, she doesn't want to talk about her sister to anyone. When anyone outside the family asks her about her new sister she refuses to talk about her.

She also has been punishing Hubby and I by withholding hugs and kisses. That has been killing me, but again, all to be expected. I am sure that at some point things we will all find our new groove together and she won't be so upset at us. I hope that comes sooner rather than later.

One of the nifty things my doctor gave me in the operating room was a ball. He literally said to me, I am going to give you a ball, you need to hold on to it and protect it. I know, sounds kind of odd, but you have to know my doctor. Anyway, this orb, as I renamed it, had lidocaine in it and had two tubes that ran down through my incision. The orb pumped the lidocaine into my incision for about the next 4 days. I loved my orb and hated to see it go once it was all deflated and gone. It came home with me and my mom removed it and the tubes on Sunday morning.

Monday morning we had Kasey's first doctor's appointment. She was examined and passed everything with flying colors. When we were discharged from the hospital she was discharged weighing at 6lbs 8oz. But at the doctors office she weighed in at 6lbs 11oz. So, she is gaining weight as she should!

One thing that really amazes me about Courtney is that recently she has been into "light" pink. She wants to wear light pink and everything needs to be light pink. She doesn't like 'dark' pink clothes either. She is so funny. I have no idea where she learned the difference.

Well, I am exhausted. Better head to bed! Please feel free to check the website for new pictures, we add them daily! And just for clarification, Kasey's birthday is April 8th.

Baby Kasey

Well, I didn't make it to 39 weeks! The baby had other plans...

I was at the doctor last Monday, he said I was 1 cm at that time. The next day the kid was extremely quiet to the point that I was worried. So, I went to the doctor's office to do a bio-physical test, where they make sure the kid isn't stressed out in there. She passed, but I was having contractions about every 10 minutes.

That night while watching American Idol I was still having pretty good contractions but they too were all over the place. They were not regular at all. The next morning I woke up and had some other indicators of labor going on, so after a call to the doctor we headed to the hospital.

When they checked me there, I think I was 3 or 4 cm. The nurse had us get up and walk to see if we could start moving things along. Along the way we ran into my doctor. He said we could either stay and help things move along with medication, or we could go home, but he had a feeling we would just have to come back later in the day. We opted to stay...

So, we began the process. They started me on a low dose of Pitocin. I got up to 7 cm pretty fast.. I got my epidural and right after the doctor came in to break my water. Right after he did things started to get a little scary. Her heart rate dropped down to 50-60. She should be running in the 130's. They stopped the pitocin and gave me two shots of medications to see if we could get her heart rate up. We were almost running down the hall for a c-section at that point. But she turned around and stabilized.

After about 4-5 hours of no changes, the doctor started to recommend that we need to go for the Cesarean section (c-section). We said OK. Once we gave the ok, things started to move really fast. We were in the operating room within about 15 minutes. They got me all prepped and then brought Hubby in. He was able to watch the whole thing, while I was really not interested. After a short amount of time, they pulled out an enormous head. Everyone in the OR basically stopped and said "wow, what a big head!" They pulled her out and she started to squawk right away. Someone pulled back the curtain so I could see her and guess what, she has blond hair!!! That was a shock! Hubby went and stayed with her. They got her taken care of with the few things that they needed to do and she and Hubby went off to the nursery.

I had to stay behind and finish having the surgery. It felt like FOREVER, but it was probably only about 1/2 hour. I think total my surgery was about 30-45 minutes.

So, she was officially born at 5:42pm, and she was 7 lbs 6oz!! I am going to go and rest for now. I will update more later, but you can find pictures (and they are being added daily at this point) on our website!

38 weeks

Well, here we are at 38 weeks, or 9 & 1/2 months pregnant! We have curtains on the windows, and the blinds are here but not put up yet, so all around we are close to having the nursery completely done!

I still am having contractions, but heck, I usually always do. The contractions have not been painful much, so nothing regular yet. I have off and on pain, so I will be interested to see how dilated I am tomorrow when I go to my OBGYN appointment. I am going to guess I am at least 2 cm now.

We had a regular finish to the end of the week. We got our taxes completed and filed. We owed big time money this year, but we knew that was coming. But it still sucks to write a large check to the government.

I brought my camera to My Gym this week, so I took a few pictures to share with you:

Last night was the Furr Ball. It's the ball to raise money for our Humane Society here in town. Our company sponsored a pet in the pet parade this year! They bring over about 20 animals from the shelter that are currently adoptable and try to find them a home. Our dog was this adorable 1 year old lab/greyhound mix named Bella. She did find a home last night, and Hubby did a great job walking her up and down the run way! Here we are last night. The lady that took the picture was not great at taking pictures but most of us made the picture.

So the other day we were again talking to Courtney about how her baby sister would be here soon. This is common conversation around here recently as you can imagine. Well, we mentioned the "soon" part and she said "like in 2 minutes?" We said, well, not quite that soon. So she responded "like 3 minutes?" We said again, no not quite that soon. To which her response was "like 5 minutes?" Ah, toddlers and their concepts...

This morning while Hubby was reading the paper, Courtney got the ads from him and created what she called "Art". She came up with this all on her own!

Well, here's to hoping we make it to next weekend! By this time next week, I will be in labor!
