Well, I didn't make it to 39 weeks! The baby had other plans...
I was at the doctor last Monday, he said I was 1 cm at that time. The next day the kid was extremely quiet to the point that I was worried. So, I went to the doctor's office to do a bio-physical test, where they make sure the kid isn't stressed out in there. She passed, but I was having contractions about every 10 minutes.
That night while watching American Idol I was still having pretty good contractions but they too were all over the place. They were not regular at all. The next morning I woke up and had some other indicators of labor going on, so after a call to the doctor we headed to the hospital.
When they checked me there, I think I was 3 or 4 cm. The nurse had us get up and walk to see if we could start moving things along. Along the way we ran into my doctor. He said we could either stay and help things move along with medication, or we could go home, but he had a feeling we would just have to come back later in the day. We opted to stay...
So, we began the process. They started me on a low dose of Pitocin. I got up to 7 cm pretty fast.. I got my epidural and right after the doctor came in to break my water. Right after he did things started to get a little scary. Her heart rate dropped down to 50-60. She should be running in the 130's. They stopped the pitocin and gave me two shots of medications to see if we could get her heart rate up. We were almost running down the hall for a c-section at that point. But she turned around and stabilized.
After about 4-5 hours of no changes, the doctor started to recommend that we need to go for the Cesarean section (c-section). We said OK. Once we gave the ok, things started to move really fast. We were in the operating room within about 15 minutes. They got me all prepped and then brought Hubby in. He was able to watch the whole thing, while I was really not interested. After a short amount of time, they pulled out an enormous head. Everyone in the OR basically stopped and said "wow, what a big head!" They pulled her out and she started to squawk right away. Someone pulled back the curtain so I could see her and guess what, she has blond hair!!! That was a shock! Hubby went and stayed with her. They got her taken care of with the few things that they needed to do and she and Hubby went off to the nursery.
I had to stay behind and finish having the surgery. It felt like FOREVER, but it was probably only about 1/2 hour. I think total my surgery was about 30-45 minutes.
So, she was officially born at 5:42pm, and she was 7 lbs 6oz!! I am going to go and rest for now. I will update more later, but you can find pictures (and they are being added daily at this point) on our website!
