I don't know if you heard about the Tylenol recall, but they recalled lots of Children and Infant Tylenol. The bottle I had for Kasey was on the recall list. This prompted me to call Tylenol to find out what they want us to do with the recalled bottle. Of course their lines were busy the couple times I tried to call. So, I did some investigating into how to dispose of unused, expired, or recalled medication. They used to tell you to dump it down the toilet. Not so anymore. That is not good for the environment and the waste water treatment plants are not set up to handle that kind of thing.
I did learn that you should start by contacting your local pharmacy. Some pharmacies will take them to dispose of them properly. If your pharmacy doesn't, they should know when and where collection dates are held. You can also contact the people who handle hazardous materials in your area. Please don't dump old (or any) drugs down the toilet, it will end up in the water ways which will end up harming all plants and animals who depend on those waterways to survive!
I had my 3rd MOPS meeting today. I think I have said it before, but I am going to say it again. I really really enjoy going to these meetings. There is always a speaker talking about something different. Each time it has been really really good! Last week the speaker spoke about relationships. This week they had a speaker who taught us some of the Love and Logic stuff. She also teaches a class one night a week at the church on Love and Logic. I am really interested in taking the class now! I always want to be the best parent possible, and I feel like the more I learn, hopefully the better parent I am to my kids. At least I really hope that is how it goes!
This afternoon my mom, dad and I had a "teaching" session at the cancer center. It was hard for me, it really hit home that this is real. They taught us all about the drugs, what they do, what the side effects can be, how to deal with the side effects, etc. We were there for an hour, but it flew by! I am really impressed by this cancer center. They are all so caring and seemed to have thought of everything. You are allowed to bring your dog with you to your chemo treatments (if you have a well behaved dog), and up to 2 people too. They encourage you to call them any time (really, day or night!) with any questions or concerns. In fact since we have started going there a few weeks ago they are always saying, 'if any of you have any questions at any time, call us!'. It really seems like a great place, as much as it just sucks having to go there to begin with. And they are there not just for the patient, but for all family members involved too.
Moving on, I saw a very interesting article in the paper today and later it showed up on our zoo's blog. The lead silver back gorilla was having some pain and the zoo didn't know what to do. But thanks to the generosity of the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center (same place my mom is going) they were able to borrow a portable CT scanner and figure out what was wrong with Rafiki. This is a really neat story, and you can find the details here: http://cheyennemountainzooblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/rafiki.html
Courtney had a swallow study on Thursday. We are pretty sure we saw some slight improvement. I really won't know for sure until I meet with her psychical therapist on Tuesday. But as long as there is some small slight improvement life is good. Maybe that means there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Courtney did really really good at the swallow study too. She didn't fight drinking the cherry flavored barium (ooh, yum) and she did exactly what was asked of her. Everyone was so thankful we had such a good little girl on our hands!
We finally got to see a bit of the mountains today after all the wonky weather we have been having. I took some pictures of Pikes Peak because it's amazing how much snow was up there!
Well, I need to get some sleep, hope all of you are well!
